Everything I was fleeing from returns as a bigger avalanche that drags you to square one if you wear old failings. Fly next to me and sail through time and drink the immense, eternal breath. Watch me change form after form and still breathe in your hair inside a new day. In the space you now fill there is bitter juice of dense silences that collect for a long time like shards of hell. Why? Why? Old failings. Fly next to me and sail through time and drink the immense, eternal breath. Watch me change form after form and still breathe in your hair inside a new day. You don’t see how easy it is, you don’t see that it’s futile to forget about believing in the old failings. Fly next to me and sail through time and drink the immense, eternal breath. Watch me change form after form and still breathe in your hair inside a new day. You don’t see how easy it is, you don’t see that it’s futile to forget about believing in the old failings. English translation © 2023 Dennis Criteser Muscoli e dei (Muscles and Gods) was Marta sui tubi's debut album. The duo Giovanni Gulino (vocals) and Carmelo Pippitone (guitar and vocals) became an underground sensation in the clubs of Bologna in the fall and winter of 2002/2003, performing originals and covers. Their demo was positively received and led to a publishing deal with Eclectic Circus Records. There was nothing else like it on the Italian airwaves when the album was released in late 2003. Subsequently, in 2004, drummer Ivan Paolini was added and the group was voted the Best Italian Independent Group at the annual Meeting of the Independents music event. The Eclectic Circus music videos are especially noteworthy. |
I began exploring Italian popular songs as part of learning Italian. Here are my translations for some of my favorite "canzoni" by Italian singers, songwriters, and bands whose work I admire. It's a work in progress that can serve as a curated introduction to Italian popular music, with an emphasis on the 1950s through the 1990s. If you speak Italian, send me a message if you see lyrics I've misunderstood.
