Hello hello, little doll, whatcha doin’ tonight? Hello hello, do you hear me? If we go out you’ll see. Hello hello, if you come along, you’ll have me dancing. Hello hello, my bobby, don’t say no. I’ll hold you tight. Hey, hey, hey, I’ll kiss you. Hey, hey, hey, I’ll shout at you, hey, hey, hey, that only yours, all yours, I’ll always be. Hello hello, wolf cub, I’ll come get you. Hello hello, three jumps with you I wanna do. Hello hello, I wanna toss you in the air. Hello hello, are you ready? Don’t say no. I’ll hold you tight. Hey, hey, hey, I’ll pick you up. Hey, hey, hey, I’ll shout at you, hey, hey, hey, that only yours, all yours, I’ll always be, that only yours, all yours, I’ll always be. English translation © 2021 Dennis Criteser Adriano Celentano con Giulio Libano e la sua orchestra was Celentano's first album, released in 1960. The album is mostly a collection of previously released singles. Celentano was the first Italian artist to credibly capture the spirit and sound of American rock of the 1950s, presented here big-band style, with accomplished arrangements by Libano, whose jazz players sound like they were enjoying the experience of "rocking out" and backing "Il Mollegiato" (the springy one - Celentano's nickname based on his peculiar style of dancing). |
I began exploring Italian popular songs as part of learning Italian. Here are my translations for some of my favorite "canzoni" by Italian singers, songwriters, and bands whose work I admire. It's a work in progress that can serve as a curated introduction to Italian popular music, with an emphasis on the 1950s through the 1990s. If you speak Italian, send me a message if you see lyrics I've misunderstood.
