Desidero te Per amarti tanto tanto Per baciarti notte e giorno Desidero te Desidero te Desidero te © 1959 Lyrics: Luciano Beretto; Music: Ezio Leoni "Desidero te" was Celentano's cover of a single released in 1959 by Giorgio Gaber (who was for a time a rhythm guitarist in Celentano's first band, the Rock Boys). |
I want you, to love you so much, to kiss you night and day, I want you. Love, you’re the one who gives life to my life, who gives light to this heart, I want you. Why don’t you want me to talk of love to you? Why don’t you want me to hug you so? I want you, to love you so much, to kiss you night and day, I want you. Why don’t you want me to talk of love to you? Why don’t you want me to hug you so? I want you, to love you so much, to kiss you night and day, I want you, I want you. English translation © 2021 Dennis Criteser Adriano Celentano con Giulio Libano e la sua orchestra was Celentano's first album, released in 1960. The album is mostly a collection of previously released singles. Celentano was the first Italian artist to credibly capture the spirit and sound of American rock of the 1950s, presented here big-band style, with accomplished arrangements by Libano, whose jazz players sound like they were enjoying the experience of "rocking out" and backing "Il Mollegiato" (the springy one - Celentano's nickname based on his peculiar style of dancing). |
I began exploring Italian popular songs as part of learning Italian. Here are my translations for some of my favorite "canzoni" by Italian singers, songwriters, and bands whose work I admire. It's a work in progress that can serve as a curated introduction to Italian popular music, with an emphasis on the 1950s through the 1990s. If you speak Italian, send me a message if you see lyrics I've misunderstood.
